FAQs

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions to help you feel comfortable with burning your new Asteya candle:

What are wooden wick candles and how do I use them?

Wooden wick candles are candles that have a wick made out of wood rather than traditional cotton wicks. They burn slower than traditional wicks, they create a unique crackling sound when burning and are often used for a more natural and rustic aesthetic.

To light a wooden wick candle, use a long match or a lighter to ignite the wick at the base. Just simply light at the edge and let it catch on.

Why is my wooden wick not staying lit?

There could be a few reasons why your wooden wick candle won't stay lit:

  • The wick is too long: The wick should be trimmed to 1/4 inch before lighting to ensure that it stays lit. This will prevent the flame from getting too large and will help the candle burn evenly.
  • The wick is too short: It may not be able to draw enough wax up to the flame to sustain itself. If your candle burns for a short time or doesn't light at all, you can use a napkin to soak up the melted wax to make it burn normally. Or, you can scrape some wax around the wick to make sure there's not too much and try lighting it again.
  • The candle is in a drafty area: If your candle is in a drafty area or near a fan or air vent, it may be difficult to keep the wick lit.
  • The candle has been burnt for too long: It is recommended to burn a wooden wick candle for no more than 4 hours at a time. If the candle has been burning for longer than this, the wick may not be able to draw up enough wax to sustain the flame.

How long do Asteya candles burn for?

The burn time of a soy coconut wax candle will depend on the size of the candle and the type of wick used. In general, our 8oz soy coconut wax candles have a burn time of around 45-50 hours.

What are soy coconut wax candles and what are the benefits of using such wax?

Soy coconut wax candles are candles that are made from a blend of soy wax and coconut wax. These candles have a creamy, smooth appearance and a long burn time.

There are several benefits to using soy coconut wax candles:

  • They throw fragrance scents extremely well
  • They are made from natural, renewable resources
  • They are biodegradable and environmentally friendly
  • They have a long burn time and can last up to 50% longer than traditional paraffin wax candles
  • They burn cleanly and do not produce soot or toxins

Why is my candle wax changing colour after burning it?

Soy wax and coconut wax can both become yellow over time due to a process called oxidation. This is a natural process that occurs when the oils in the wax are exposed to oxygen and heat. The yellow color is not harmful and does not affect the performance of the candle. In fact, the natural, slightly yellow color of soy and coconut wax candles is a sign that your candle is free of toxins!

Why does my candle have frosting?

Frosting on a candle is a very common and natural characteristic of pure vegetable waxes and is most often caused by changes in temperature. These spots are only for appearance and do not impact the candle's fragrance or burning properties. Often, the appearance of the candle will improve while it burns and the jar is heated.
